The word solstice means stationary sun. As on the summer sun stays the longest before sunset. Thus making the longest day of the year.

On 21 June 2020, Summer solstice is going to take place in Northern Hemisphere, while winter solstice in Southern Hemisphere. This happens between 20 to 23 june every year. Earth rotates around sun and spins on its axis, at some degree it aligns up in such a way that sun directly hits earth. Thus the summer starts. The warm day on the hemisphere start from solstice.
